Raylene Harvey is a multi-passionate 35-something web developer from Cape Town. Although her day job might be technical, she uses her blog and YouTube channel as a creative outlet to share her love for all things fashion, sewing and DIY, while inspiring her readers and viewers to live a more creative and fulfilling life.
With 60 videos and over 2 million views on her Youtube channel, and making the top 100 list of Youtube channels in South Africa in 2017, Raylene uses her platform to showcase her creative and “behind the seams” journey.
A self-taught sewist, fashion blogger, and former owner of several community blogs including Hapicup, ZA Lookbook and Daily Inspo Dot Net, she has been making waves in the inspiration and self-improvement realm for as long as she can remember.
She debuted her fashion journey through her blog – Scarlet Aura – where she portrayed her love of fashion through making and styling her own clothes and sharing her learnings as she embarked on her creative journey.
Raylene is an award winning web developer – she was part of production teams that won awards – including Loeries, Bookmarks, Creative Circle, and worked for over 10 years at a digital design agency that won Ad Review Digital Agency of the Year 7 times in a row.
Raylene is also a former musician, singer and songwriter and launched her debut album Let Me Breathe in 2008. She performed on many a stage and at festivals including Cape Town Festival, Concerts in the Park as well as on radio.
She is a former photographic model and her work featured in top brands including Sanlam, MWEB, Cell C, Plascon, RCS, Hang Ten and Simba for print work, video work, cinema ads, billboards and websites. She has also been featured in magazines including Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Kuier and Stage magazine.
She is a former brand ambassador for the LABEL Collections clothing label and her blog was nominated in the Beauty Blog awards in 2015. She also won a designer clothing collection worth R50,000 that was inspired by her photography taken on the Cape Town InstaWalk in association with Skip South Africa.
A multi-passionate at heart, she hones creative skills across a spectrum of creative disciplines – including web development, video production, video editing, photography, design, directing, writing, sewing, drawing, presenting, coaching, singing, acting and songwriting.
